Chicago Fed National Activity Index decreases

Led by declines in employment- and production-related indicators, the Chicago Fed National Activity Index (CFNAI) decreased to –0.18 in October from +0.18 in September.

Three of the four broad categories of indicators that make up the index decreased from September, and only one of the four categories made a positive contribution to the index in October.

The index’s three-month moving average, CFNAI-MA3, increased to +0.06 in October from –0.02 in September, marking its first positive reading in eight months.
