Manufacturing job growth in October

Manufacturing added 19,000 jobs in October, with job growth occurring in motor vehicles and parts (+6,000), wood products (+3,000), and furniture and related products (+3,000).

An analysis of the latest jobs report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that, on net, manufacturing employment has changed little since February 2013.

In October, small employment increases were seen in mining and logging (5,000 jobs), construction (11,000 jobs), while the wholesale trade lost about 5,400 jobs, and transportation and warehousing showed no job gains.

Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 204,000 in October, and the unemployment rate rose to 7.3 percent.
