Strong September durable goods report

Manufacturers made strides in September as durable goods orders increased by 3.7 percent to $233.4 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau announced today.

The September increase came on the heels of a 0.2 percent August increase. Gains in orders for transportation equipment drove the increase, primarily from orders of nondefense aircraft and parts.

Shipments of manufactured durable goods also increased during the month, by 0.2 percent to $231.8 billion. This was at the highest level since the series was first published on a NAICS basis in 1992, and followed a 0.8 percent August increase.
