Manufactured goods orders down 10.1%
New orders for manufactured goods fell 10.1 percent in August to $502.0 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau reported today.
Orders had increased 10.5 percent in July. Most of the decrease was attributed to a decline in transportation. Excluding transportation, new orders decreased 0.1 percent.
New orders for durable goods orders plunged 18.4 percent to $244.8 billion, following a gain of 22.5 percent in July.
Shipments, down following two consecutive monthly increases, decreased 1.0 percent to $503.1 billion. This followed a 1.4 percent July increase.
