Midwest manufacturing declines

The Chicago Fed Midwest Manufacturing Index decreased 0.1% in July, to a
seasonally adjusted level of 95.8.


Revised data show the index was up 0.4% in June. The Federal Reserve Board’s industrial production index for manufacturing (IPMFG) moved down 0.1% in July. Regional output rose 1.6% in July from a year earlier, and national output increased 1.5%.

Output rose by 1.5% in the steel sector, while production in the auto and machinery sectors both declined during the month.
