New orders for manufactured durable goods increased 1.9 percent in May to $195.6 billion.
The increase followed a 2.7 percent April decrease. Excluding transportation, new orders increased 0.6 percent. Excluding defense, new orders increased 1.9 percent.
Transportation equipment had the largest increase, 5.8 percent, to $49.6 billion. This was due to nondefense aircraft and parts which increased $2.7 billion.
Shipments increased $0.6 billion or 0.3 percent to $194.6 billion.
