Durable goods orders decline
New orders for manufactured durable goods decreased 0.5 percent in April to $235.5 billion.
Excluding the volatile commercial aircraft industry, which soared by 40.7 percent in March but declined 4 percent in April, new orders increased 0.5 percent.
The U.S.Census Bureau said the decrease in factory orders followed a 5.1 percent March increase.
Orders for primary metals fell 2.1 percent in April, while new orders for machinery increased by 3.1 percent.
Shipments of manufactured durable goods decreased 0.1 percent to $240.5 billion. This followed a 1.5 percent March increase.
