Grainger February sales up 3 percent

Grainger reported sales for the month of February increased 3 percent versus February 2013.

Results for the month included 2 percentage points from acquisitions, net of dispositions, and a 2 percentage points decline from unfavorable foreign exchange.

Excluding acquisitions and foreign exchange, organic sales increased 3 percent driven by 4 percentage points from volume, 1 percentage point from increased sales of seasonal products. The gains were partially offset by a 2 percentage points decline from business disruptions due to the extreme weather that closed customer and Grainger facilities across the United States at times during the month.

Sales in the United States increased by 5 percent, while sales in Canada decreased by 11 percent (2 percent in local currency). Sales to other businesses, primarily in Asia, Europe and Latin America, were up 11 percent (19 percent in local currency).
