ICP attends SkillsUSA event
Industrial Careers Pathway recently exhibited at the 2013 SkillsUSA TECHSPO in Kansas City, Mo. June 25 – 27.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of teachers, students and industry all working to make sure there is a skilled work force in America in the future. It offers a great way to spread the word about the incredibly rewarding careers in the field of industrial distribution to those with the skillset needed by the industry.
The TECHSPO is America’s largest exposition of career and technical education. Attended by more than 14,000 students, teachers and school administrators from high schools, technical/vocational colleges and training programs across the country, it offers exhibitors a perfect opportunity to engage in face-to-face conversations. ICP staff held hundreds of conversations with young adults and their influencers over the three days the TECHSPO was open.
SkillsUSA TECHSPO is held in conjunction with the SkillsUSA Championships, where students who won state championships compete in over 90 hands-on-skill and leadership competitions to win national awards.
“These students are the cream of the crop when it comes to the mindset and skills necessary for success in the field of industrial distribution and manufacturing. Attending this event was a fantastic way to introduce students and their influencers to all the opportunities available in the field,” said Mary Jawgiel, ICP Program Director, who attended the TECHSPO for ICP.
The most requested item by far from teachers and administrators was to have someone from industrial distribution attend a career fair at their school or make a presentation to their class. ICP now has over 40 requests to attend local career fairs and is working to match ICP Ambassadors with requests. “We’re already making plans to attend next year’s event,” Jawgiel said.
Through the collective support of Alliance Partners and their member companies, ICP is devoted to building awareness among the elusive 18-34 year old audience about the incredibly rewarding careers available in industrial distribution.
