Manufactured goods orders declined in October

New orders for manufactured goods decreased 0.1 percent in October to $479.6 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau reported today.


The decline followed two consecutive monthly increases.

Transportation equipment drove the decrease, declining 4.2 percent to $77.4 billion. New orders for manufactured nondurable goods increased 0.7 percent to $242.2 billion.

Shipments of manufactured durable increased 0.4 percent to $242.0 billion in October, up from the previously published 0.1 percent increase. This followed a 1.2 percent September increase. Primary metals led the increase, rising 1.6 percent to $19.9 billion.
