Fastenal said its sales for the third quarter climbed 20.4% to $726.7 million.
Quarterly earnings increased 29.1% to $96.7 million, or 33 cents per share, compared to $74.9 million, or 25 cents per share, in the same period last year.
For the first nine months of the year, sales increased 22% to $2.06 billion. Net earnings for the nine-month period were $270.4 million, or 92 cents per share.
The Winona, Minn.-based distributor opened 94 new stores in the nine-month span, an increase of 3.8% compared to 2010. Employee headcount increased by 12.4% to 14,927.
