United Stationers makes executive appointments

United Stationers appointed a new chief operating officer and senior vice president/chief information officer.

Timothy P. Connolly has been promoted to the position of chief operating officer. He will continue to report to P. Cody Phipps, president and chief executive officer.

"Tim has led our office supply and janitorial businesses for the past two years," said Phipps. "He has an outstanding track record of delivering results and has consistently demonstrated strong operating leadership."

Connolly was most recently the company's president, business transformation and supply chain and, prior to that, had held various managerial positions since his arrival in August 2003. Before joining the company, he was regional vice president for Cardinal Health where he directed operations, sales, human resources, finance, and customer service for a $1.2 billion pharmaceutical division.

Janet Zelenka has been appointed to senior vice president and chief information officer.

"Janet has proven her transformational leadership skills in leading the transition of our office supply and janitorial businesses to a common operating and information technology platform," said Phipps. "As we look to the future, we will need this leadership capability in guiding our information technology shared service organization. I am very pleased that Janet will take on this strategic and critical role and continue to lead the transition to a common platform."

Zelenka joined the company in 2006 as vice president and general auditor and has held several key management positions, including vice president of finance and margin management. Prior to joining the company, she held executive positions at SBC-Ameritech (now AT&T) including vice president–information technology and chief financial officer-information technology.
