According to published sources, Industrial Distribution magazine will cease publication.
The magazine, a competitor to Industrial Supply magazine which has served the industrial distribution industry since 1911, is one of three publications to be closed down by Reed Business Information (RBI). According to a report by trade magazine publisher Folio, the magazine's Web site will also be discontinued.
RBI is owned by British-Dutch publishing group Reed Elsevier PLC, which is in advanced talks to sell some of its trade magazines in the U.S. and will close other titles after failing to find a buyer for the entire division.
John Poulin, chief executive of Reed Business Information in the U.S., said in a staff memo that the firm is in "advanced discussions to sell a number of titles to separate purchasers," and if they are satisfactorily concluded he expects to make announcements in the next few months.
The memo was sent to staff at the end of last month, according to Dow Jones Newswires.
"We haven't been able to sell the business as a whole, and this unfortunately will result in title closures and job losses across the business during the first half of the new year.
"I know that this has come as a major disappointment, but it reflects the impact of the structural changes in our markets, accelerated by the recession," Poulin said in the staff memo.
Industrial Distribution magazine was led by long-time chief editor and associate publisher Jack Keough and managing editor Victoria Fraza Kickham.
